Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith could not get it done during LSU’s loss to South Carolina on Thursday night. The Tigers fell six points short of a win over the No. 1 team in the country at home.

Kim Mulkey’s team played hard throughout the entire game and held the lead for most of the the first half, into the second half. They went up by 11 at one point during the first quarter but couldn’t hold on.

The Gamecocks came storming back to leave Baton Rouge undefeated.

Van Lith, who continues to evolve in her role as the primary point guard, went 5-of-13 from the field. She hit two of her five three-point attempts. Even though she finished with 13 points, three assists and two rebounds, it was another frustrating evening for one of the purest shooters in the game.

There were multiple instances during which it felt like Hailey Van Lith had the yips. Angel Reese felt similarly.

A hot mic caught the LSU superstar yelling at her first-year teammate to shoot the open triple with just under six minutes left in the game. Van Lith got a great look on a pass back out to the wing but chose to pump fake, put the ball on the ground, and drive into the lane instead of taking the shot.

Reese let her know she has the green light.

The encouragement ultimately paid off in a big way. Van Lith got her wits about her and hit a clutch three to tie the game at 70 about four minutes later. It sent the home crowd into a frenzy.

Reese continued to throw support behind the Louisville transfer after the crucial make. She essentially recreated the Kevin Durant/Draymond Green GIF with Van Lith.

In the end, the Bayou Bengals fell just short. South Carolina pulled away with under 90 second left to give the reigning national champions their third loss of the new season. It was an instant classic!
