Let’s All Watch My High School Football Team’s Hype Video For Their First Home Game Of The Season

5A Virginia football powerhouse the Annandale Atoms kick off their home schedule tonight against crosstown rival Lake Braddock.

The Atoms were a dominant program from the mid-70s to the mid-90s, winning five state championships and producing one NFL player.

In 1998, their freshman squad went an astounding 8-1, portending good things to come, led by second-string wide receiver David Covucci, who saw virtually no playing time, even in blowouts.

Covucci quit the squad after that year to focus on his position as Sports Editor for The A-Blast (one of the most prestigious high shool newspapers in the country). He was the first sophomore to ever be named to an editor position, making it all the way up to editor-in-chief his senior year, before he developed a crippling weed addiction that rendered him useless (and led his girlfriend of the time to dump him).

After Covucci’s departure from the football squad, the Atoms fell on hard times, including two 1-9 seasons in three years that led to the firing of legendary head coach Dick Adams.

Are you not yet hyped for the Atoms’ home slate? Give that video a watch. I bet you will be. Go Atoms.

Annandale lost last week to Centreville, 42-0.
