Things are not looking good for Arch Manning in Texas.
On Saturday, Texas backup QB Maalik Murphy started for injured QB Quinn Ewers, which appears to be a prelude to a QB battle in the future.
According to college football insider Bruce Feldman, he expects Murphy and Manning to battle it out for the starting QB job in Texas next season if Ewers decides to make the jump to the NFL.

“My guess is they will re-evaluate in the spring where he’s at,” said Feldman on The Rich Eisen Show. “The question is, does Quinn Ewers leave? Because he could leave and jump in this deep quarterback class. And then, Maalik Murphy, who they know has talent, but hasn’t played a lot — he didn’t play a lot in high school — will he be able to show enough? I think that’s the quarterback battle next spring if Ewers leaves.”
During the first half of the Longhorns game against Kansas State, Murphy played extremely well, connecting on a long TD pass.
