Kickers are athletes too. No matter how much slack they get, especially when they miss, NFL kickers have one of the hardest jobs in football.

Although it may not be the most physically strenuous or time consuming, there is so much pressure. Walking out onto the field in the closing seconds of a game that could be decided by one kick is nerve-wracking. And yet, for some reason, kickers don’t get any love.

It’s time for that to change.

The Atlanta Falcons employ Younghoe Koo. Koo, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, spent his early years overseas before moving to the United States in sixth grade.

At first, he was a soccer player. However, when someone introduced him to football in high school, it stuck.

Since then, Koo has skyrocketed to success on the highest level. He was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the best kicker in the nation, as a senior at Georgia Southern and signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

After spending 2019 with the Atlanta Legends, he signed with the Falcons in October of that year. Since then, he has quickly become a cult hero.

Not only has Koo made more than 93% of his kicks in the last two years, but his onside kick game is unmatched.

Koo, who was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2020, stands 5-foot-10, 195 pounds. It may not look like he is a monster in the weight room, but he puts in that work.

The Falcons recently dropped a hype video for Koo and although it was completely random, it was completely awesome.

For a position that does not get enough love as is it should, it is time to normalize kicker hype videos. Especially when they’re getting big in the gym. May this be a start to a new era.
