The Cleveland Guardians had a pretty good day on Sunday, defeating the Baltimore Orioles 8-4 at Progressive Field. However, Sunday was even more special to catcher Austin Hedges than it was for all of the other Guardians players as he proposed to his girlfriend on the field after the victory.
With a little help from the giant stadium video board, Austin Hedges popped the question to Lexi Dickson with his teammates gathered nearby and several fans still lingering in the stands. The Progressive Field jumbotron read, “Lexi WILL YOU MARRY ME?” as he bent down on one knee.
Dickson, who has been dating Hedges since November 2024, immediately said yes, much to the delight of his teammates and the fans who hung around to witness the special occasion.

“I figured out this is what I was going to do only a couple weeks ago,” Cleveland.com reported Hedges said. “But I’ve had the ring since early spring training, just trying to figure out when the right time was.”
Win or lose, he was proposing
The 33-year-old, 12-year Major League Baseball veteran also said that the Cleveland Guardians’ win before the proposal was just the icing on the cake.
“I was really hoping we won the game,” he said. “I was going to do it regardless, but I really wanted to win that game to make it extra special.”
Hedges added, “There were a lot of nerves, a lot of nerves. I’m always nervous for baseball games … and just trying to stay present, knowing that there were some activities after. But it’s a special day. Special to be able to soak it all in.”

After the proposal, Hedges said he and Dickson were just going to “go to dinner and then just have a night to ourselves and enjoy it.” That is probably because on Monday, the Guardians, who are in first place in the American League Central, will be back on the field against the Houston Astros to start a three-game series in Cleveland.
Dickinson, according to Cleveland.com, is an aesthetic nurse practitioner and emerging sports-style influencer who shares wellness, Pilates and fashion content.
