The youngster, who is wrapping up his final year at Texas A&M, burst onto the scene with back-to-back 68s through the first two rounds. Bennett soared to as high as No. 2 on the leaderboard before finishing in a tie for 16th place.

In the process, he became the first amateur player since 2005 to finish in the top 20 at Augusta. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to cash in his $261,000 winnings due to that amateur status, though he’ll likely see a few new NIL opportunities as a result of his impressive performance.

Following that showing on the course, Sam Bennett was congratulated for his play. He was interviewed by Jim Nantz alongside Masters winner Jon Rahm after the tournament. The interaction provided viewers with an awkward moment, which has now gone viral online.

Both golfers sat across Nantz, receiving congratulations for their play over the weekend. As the conversation shifted to Rahm and the Green Jacket, Bennett stood up mid conversation and left the room.
