Following the Baltimore Ravens‘ dramatic overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, defensive back Marlon Humphrey claimed that superstar teammate Kyle Hamilton knew he was going to intercept Falcons’ backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in overtime.

“Kyle was like, ‘TUA IN THE GAME.’ He was like, ‘He gonna throw me one.’ It was the most excited I’ve probably seen Kyle,” Humphrey said on his podcast.

Video of the sideline interaction showed that Humphrey wasn’t far off in his retelling of the situation. But Hamilton doesn’t remember things going the same way, and he isn’t happy with how Humphrey framed it.

Kyle Hamilton Sets Record Straight On Marlon Humphrey Comments

“That was pretty hyperbolic by Marlon,” Hamilton told reporters on Wednesday when asked about the situation. “I would say, the way he presented is not how I would present it.

“It was more so of the defense has an opportunity to go win the game, doesn’t matter who it was. Could have been a sack-fumble, could have been a fourth-down stop, could have been a pick. Obviously, Tua was the backup quarterback, and he hadn’t played that much. I think, got one snap before that in the game, so it’s like, ‘Hey, we’re taking advantage of somebody who is coming in the game and hasn’t been in there for a while.’

Hamilton is one of the most mild-mannered superstars in the league. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that he’d downplay Humphrey’s comments. But he almost made sure to express his respect for Tagovailoa.

“I have the utmost respect for Tua as a player, as a person. I know him, he’s a good guy. No malice, obviously, guys just competing at the end of the day. I just wanted to instill confidence in the defense that we were going to get a stop there and win the game.”

Safe to say Humphrey and Hamilton may be in for an awkward conversation at some point in the near future.
