Just when you think you have seen everything that could possibly happen in a baseball game, something new pops up that you’ve never seen before. Such was the case during a recent Double-A game between the Portland Sea Dogs and Hartford Yard Goats.
Fans wondered if there was a glitch in the simulation this week when the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies’ Minor League Baseball teams produced one of the most bizarre sequence of events ever seen in baseball.
The strange occurrence was brought to the internet’s attention by a baseball fan named Parker Doyle who explained on Instagram, “In the top of the 4th inning with one out, Portland’s Abraham Liendo hits what would normally be a routine grounder to the third baseman only for it to ricochet off the fielder to the shortstop who guns down the runner for out number two.”
Nothing strange about that. However, in the bottom half of the inning, things got very, very weird.
That’s when “with the EXACT same count, number of outs, pitch speed, and the uncanny statures of both pitchers and hitters, Hartford’s Dyan Jorge hits a routine grounder to Portland’s third baseman that ricochets off to the shortstop who throws out Jorge at first. This feat is remarkable at so many levels and is definitely a rare sight to see.”
Rare? How about never-before-seen?
We have seen glitches in the matrix before, and very smart people have claimed that there is a pretty good chance that we are living in a simulation, but it never fails to shock us when stuff like this happens.
“That’s one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen,” one Instagram user commented, echoing many others.
“Both 83 mph too is absolutely INSANE,” another baseball fan wrote.
“Whoever’s rendering our world is getting lazy,” read another comment.
Numerous people claimed that the video was fake or made with AI. The box score of the baseball game says otherwise.
As does an article written about the plays on MLB.com. “You’re seeing double, eh? No, you’re seeing Double-A,” the clever writer of the article joked.
