The Chicago Bears were throttled by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon by the count of 38-3. The truly embarrassing beatdown didn’t keep Chicago head coach Matt Nagy from talking about his team’s togetherness, however.
Nagy’s postgame comments come across as him grasping at the final straw available. Saying that the team has “become really close” after losing by 35 points is a bold strategy, but it’s the one Nagy took.
“I will say the last couple days with our team, we’ve become really close,” Nagy explained, according to Dan Wiederer of The Chicago Tribune. “For us to become as close as we have the last 24-48 hours, I just trust and believe in them.”
Nagy may have been able to get away with comments like that following a one-score loss to the defending Super Bowl champs, but not after being embarrassed in every single face.
As you would expect, and rightfully so, Bears fans didn’t appreciate his postgame message. Chicago fans absolutely tore into Nagy after he preached about his team being close.
