The Chicago Bears have picked up released offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood.

The former first-round pick was cut by the Raiders this preseason as the team solidified its 53-man roster. It’s a bit surprising to see the big man, who was drafted just a season ago, let go this early into his NFL career, but he never really fit in with Las Vegas.

And now that the coach that drafted him is gone, the organization decided to cut ties.

While the lineman does boast potential, he never came close to reaching it last year. Leatherwood led the NFL in defensive pressures allowed, but he’ll hope to clean that issue up with the Bears.

While he could perform at a higher level in Chicago, many fans are having the same initial reaction upon seeing the signing.

Fans joke the Bears don’t like Justin Fields after Alex Leatherwood signing

After seeing the Bears pick up Leatherwood, many are joking that they don’t like Justin Fields. As mentioned, the lineman allowed the most pass rushers to get to the quarterback in 2021.

Here are a few immediate responses to the news.

One person says, “The Bears signed Alex Leatherwood former Raiders’ 1st rd pick, I feel bad for Justin Fields he gave up more QB pressures than anyone in the NFL.”

Another responded, “and somehow their offensive line gets worse.”

“They don’t like Justin Fields bro,” another Twitter user reacted.

Time will tell whether Leatherwood works out in Chicago. Las Vegas is certainly glad they picked up the lineman because they’re now off the hook for nearly $6 million in cap space.
