For the fifth straight season, Minnesota high school hockey powerhouse Edina is headed to the 2A state tournament. They booked their ticket to the tourney after a 3-1 win over Wayzata in a game that featured one of the most improbable and incredible goals we’ve seen in years.
This is not just a great goal at the high school hockey level. Bode McConnell‘s first goal en route to his hat trick is an elite and other worldly goal at any tier of hockey.
Is This The Greatest Minnesota High School Hockey Goal Of The Decade?
Bode McConnell handled all of the scoring for Edina with his hat trick and the storied program is headed to the 2A tournament for their 44th time, just an incredible achievement. The Edina Hornets are just a year removed from their last state title too after winning it all in 2024.
After seeing this goal, you have to think that Edina will go into the Minnesota 2A tournament as the team to beat because the only conceivable explanation for this goal is there was a guardian angel guiding the puck. I mean, goodness gracious this is phenomenal stuff… Here is the video via X and YouTube so you can choose your preferred medium to watch:
When Edina hit this one, you figured it just might be their night.
This #SCTop10-worthy goal erased Wayzata's 1-0 2nd period lead, and was the first goal in junior Bode McConnell's hat trick in Edina's 3-1 win.@edinahornets earn the community's amazing *44th* trip to State. pic.twitter.com/5km655vNkl

And here is the YouTube version of this spectacular Edina hockey goal in the Section 6AA championship game.:
After the adrenaline-fueled hockey we just lived through in the Olympics with Team USA’s men and women winning gold after some of the most electric goals in Olympic hockey history, it feels wild to be sitting here waxing poetic about a Minnesota high school hockey goal but this is Edina Hockey we are taking about. That program is just build different.
Edina is a fixture of the annual Minnesota High School Hockey Tournament both on the ice and when it comes to be the best hair in the game. They are known for having elite mullets and some of the wildest haircuts on the ice.
Edina High School has also produced far more than its fair share of NHL talent over the years, including but not limited to 2025 NHL Draft 29th overall pick Mason West, 2010 Team USA silver medalist and Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke, Bill Nyrop who won 3 Cups with the Canadiens, Islanders captain Anders Lee, and more.
In this Section 6AA championship game at Ridder Arena, Wayzata opened the scoring and outshot Edina. After the first period they had a 1-0 lead. But Edina came roaring back in the second with McConnell scoring 2 of his 3 goals in barely over a minute. One of them was that beauty you see above. You love to see it.
Looking a head, the 2026 MSHSL Boys Hockey State Tournament (Class AA) will take place from March 5-8.
