The best and worst uniforms from Week 8 of the 2026 college football season.

Week 8 of the college football season brought about a few more surprises in an unpredictable month of October. Four of the Top 11 teams in the AP Poll fell. That came after a chaotic Week 7 in which five of the Top 7 teams lost.

No one is safe in the 2026 campaign! Schools have no control with upsets coming each and every week.

They can, however, control how they look. Many dressed to impress this past weekend.

11 Best College Football Uniforms From Week 8.

I found nearly a dozen awesome looks from the week to pass. There were throwbacks, alternative logos, blackouts, and color rushes.

I also found one dud that I’ll list at the end of the rankings. Let’s start in the ACC with a pair of retro designs.

Georgia Tech

The Yellow Jackets went with their classic gold lids, which boasted a Block T logo. That logo appears to date back to the 1960s before the program made the switch to the interlocking GT.

Georgia Tech rocked white jerseys for a home game vs. Boston College. They completed the getup with gold pants. It was simple, but it was one of my personal favorites from the weekend.

SMU

The Mustangs wore “City Edition” fits for a matchup with Cal at home. The jerseys had Dallas written across the front in script. A massive “Triple D” logo was seen on the lids.

The SMU blue popped in contrast to the white helmets and bottoms. This is one of the top city-themed designs we’ll see this season.

UCLA

UCLA’s Week 8 throwbacks were maybe my favorite look of the weekend. The sky-blue jerseys and gold pants had a retro feel. There was no logo on the domes, which I personally loved.

Everything about these uniforms screamed college football. The Bruins leaned into that old school style by pounding Michigan State to the tune of 245 rushing yards in a 28-10 win.

Miami

Speaking of throwbacks, Miami donned one of the most memorable looks in college football history on Saturday. The ‘Canes went with the 2001 design worn by a national championship squad.

Fittingly, it came with the Hurricanes being named the No. 1 team in the AP Poll for the first time in over 20 years.

Mississippi State

The Bulldogs had a blackout in Starkville on Saturday. Mississippi State activated “Dark Mode” for a matchup vs. Oklahoma.

The uniforms were black from head to toe with subtle stripes of white and maroon. They managed to keep the dark red tones from clashing with the black backdrop. A+ grades all around.

Wyoming

Wyoming also rocked a blackout look, though they opted not to implement any use of school colors. Instead, they stuck strictly to black and white for a “Cowboys and Coal” theme.

The script ‘Wyoming’ across the front of the jerseys was a nice touch, and the bucking bronco helmet logo is one of the sport’s best.

East Carolina

ECU has made a few of my lists, both for home and away looks. This time, they get prop for a throwback logo design.

The helmets featured a retro ECU logo as opposed to the typical pirate and jolly roger. The rest of the fit was icy white to allow the purple and yellow school colors to pop on the numbers and lettering. It was easily one of the best alternative designs of the weekend.

West Virginia

The Mountaineers wore their “Road Whites” for a meeting with TCU on Saturday in Fort Worth. They were clean, to say the least.

A West Virginia state outline was used as the helmet logo with the interlocking WV in the middle. The school colors fit perfectly on the white background. Top notch work from the design team.

Utah

All eyes were on Salt Lake City for Utah’s matchup vs. Houston over the weekend. The Utes hosted “College Gameday” for the Top 15 clash.

The team wore all-black on the field for a Houston funeral. My favorite part of the uniform was the helmet logo on the black backdrop. The Utes won 21-13 to secure a Big 12 victory and remain undefeated. They looked good while doing so.

Marshall

Marshall honored coal miners in West Virginia with all-black fits last Tuesday night vs. South Alabama. They were executed to perfection.

The details on the helmet striping mirrored the inside of a coal mine. A message reading, “Made Underground” was written across the back of the domes.

It was personal for head coach Tony Gibson, whose father was a coal miner that died at the age of 55 of lung cancer. His team got him a 20-13 win while honoring coal mining families.

New Mexico

New Mexico’s turquoise uniforms are some of my favorites each and every season. On Saturday night, they were worn as part of a “Route 66” theme vs. North Dakota State.

UNM rocked white helmets with “Lobos” written in red script. Red striping was used throughout the turquoise jerseys, and the fits were completed with white pants. It’s a great alternative look from a team that typically plays in red, white, and silver.

What was the worst college football uniform of Week 8?

One uniform combination stood out as being my least favorite. It was an alternative gothic design worn by Northwestern.

There was just a lot going on. Personally, I’m not a fan of the numbering, or the use of gold instead of white. The black shoulder stripes clashed with the purple jerseys, as did a black logo on both the sleeves and the helmets.

I respect the all-purple color rush, and I think the gold can work with it. I believe some white would’ve helped tone things down.
