Bianca Andreescu is one of the tennis world’s brightest young stars.

In fact, at her best the 22-year-old Canadian might just have an argument as the best women’s player in the world.

She won the 2019 US Open at just 19 years old and climbed to the No. 4 spot in the world rankings in the process.

Sadly, Andreescu hasn’t always been at her best in the four years or so since winning her first grand slam. But it hasn’t been her fault. The young star has been plagued with injuries over that time frame.

She missed the entire 2020 season after a knee injury suffered at the 2019 WTA Finals kept her out of the first few months of the season and COVID-19 ended the rest.

Andreescu then returned in early 2021, but battled more injuries and a bout with COVID which led to what amounted to another lost season.

The start of 2022 was more promising. Though Andreescu missed a few months due to injury, she returned to make a run to the quarterfinals in the 2021 Italian Open.

She later reached the finals of the Bad Homburg Open in June. But injuries struck again late in 2022 at the Silicon Valley Classic.

Sadly, just as things were looking up and Andreescu re-entered the top-30 in the world rankings, injuries struck again on Monday night.

Andreescu squared off with Ekaterina Alexandrova in the fourth round of the 2023 Miami Open and was leading 2-0 in the second after dropping the first.

But that’s as far as she would get.

Andreescu badly rolled her ankle while trying to change directions in order to return an Alexandrova shot. She immediately collapsed and yelled in pain, telling trainers she’d “never felt this kind of pain before.”

Alexandrova then came over to offer words of support before Andreescu was taken off the court in a wheelchair.

Fans gave her a standing ovation as she left.

On Tuesday, Andreescu took to Twitter to thank fans for their support and inform them that she’s still waiting on test results.

Sadly, it appears that one of the world’s biggest talents will be forced off the court yet again. Here’s hoping she eventually gets back to the level that fans know she’s capable of.
