The Charlotte 49ers aren’t expected to do much on the football field in the upcoming year, at least on paper. The program was picked to finish last in the American Athletic Conference while its projected win total sits at just three entering the 2023 campaign.

The Niners are coming off of a 3-9 season from a year ago leading to a change at the helm. Biff Poggi has since taken over the team and he’s already made his presence known at AAC Media Day.

Despite the subpar results from 2022, Charlotte’s new leader walked into Tuesday’s event with confidence.

And why not?

This is the first major head coaching gig of Poggi’s career, though he was an Associate HC at Michigan in 2021-22. The event gave him chance to showcase his program on a national stage while explaining his outlook on the team’s future.

Unfortunately, his time wouldn’t end with that same positive energy. Before the media day appearance was through, Biff Poggi was heard blasting reporters in Arlington due to a lack of interest in his program.

While standing at the podium, he was asked just three questions by those in the crowd. Typically at these events, you’ll see coaches limit their talking time in order to keep things on schedule.

In Poggi’s case, he was done before getting started, and it sparked a fiery response from the head coach.

“That’s it? Three questions?” Poggi asked. “Maybe that’s because you have us ranked last, that’s all that you think of us. We get that message, thank you.”

He then smacked the podium in disgust and stormed off the stage.

If Poggi didn’t have enough bulletin board material for his players, the media day disrespect will add ammunition to the team’s arsenal.

From the sounds of that short yet explosive AAC appearance, he’s going to do his best to prove the naysayers wrong on the field.
