The 2023 NFL draft is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated drafts in recent years, and much of the buzz is centered around two standout running backs: Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Both players are considered elite talents, and while Robinson is widely regarded as the top running back prospect in the draft, Gibbs has been making a case for himself as a potential steal.

According to veteran sports writer Peter King, there are a few NFL teams that actually prefer Gibbs over Robinson. This may come as a surprise to some, given Robinson’s impressive college career at Texas, where he racked up over 3,400 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. However, Gibbs has been turning heads with his impressive athleticism and versatility.

At the combine, Gibbs put up a jaw-dropping 4.36 40-yard dash time, showcasing his explosive speed and agility.

He was also a dual threat in college, rushing for 926 yards with a 6.1 yards-per-carry average, while also catching 44 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns. He even returned a kick for a score during his time at Georgia Tech in 2021.

While Robinson may be the more traditional running back, Gibbs offers a unique skill set that could make him a valuable asset for any NFL team. Some scouts view him as a more explosive option, capable of breaking off big plays and contributing in a variety of ways.

Of course, that’s not to say that Robinson isn’t an exceptional talent in his own right. He’s a powerful runner with excellent vision and agility, and he’s proven himself as a reliable receiver out of the backfield. Robinson recently said he met with just two NFL teams for official visits – the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – but he’s expected to be a first-round pick, with many speculating that he could go as high as the top 10.

Ultimately, the decision between Robinson and Gibbs will likely come down to a team’s individual needs and preferences. But regardless of who gets drafted first, both players have the potential to make an immediate impact at the next level. The 2023 NFL draft is sure to be one to watch for fans of both college football and the pro game alike.
