Steve Belichick Gives An Update On His Father’s Immediate Future After Bummer Exit In New England

Bill Belichick Future TV Job

Barring a shocking turn of events, Bill Belichick will not be a head football coach this season. Not on the NFL level. Not on the collegiate level.

However, the six-time Super Bowl champion cannot stay away from the game.

His son offered an update on his father’s immediate future during a recent appearance on the Green Light podcast with Chris Long. Steve was recently named the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington and fully expects Bill to be around the Huskies program throughout the season. Jedd Fisch, who took over in Seattle after Kalen DeBoer bounced for Tuscaloosa, will be thrilled to have him around.

His hobbies would still be to, I would say, critique football. He was excited when I came out here (to the Pacific Northwest) because he got to evaluate the scheme last year, evaluate the players last year. I’m sure he’ll come out here at some point to do some stuff. But the guy just loves football, so there’s definitely that element.

As for what the NFL legend plans to do when not visiting his son at Washington, there are a lot of options on the table. An on-air television job is firmly in the mix.

He’s definitely pursuing some other stuff, whether it’s TV, or be a regular on the Green Light.

Bill Belichick made a guest appearance on College GameDay ahead of the Army/Navy game at Gillette in December. It was the first opportunity to see his personality shine through to a large audience and he did a phenomenal job of breaking down the Xs and Os while also keeping things fun.

ESPN might be interested in adding the greatest coach in NFL history to its Sunday morning lineup. Fox and CBS may also want him to join their desks. It would hard to pass on his perspective.

Regardless of what plays out, Steve believes that Bill is in good spirits. The end of his tenure with the Patriots was disappointing, but all of the rings help to offset some of that sour taste.

I think he’s good. Let this stuff roll off your back and move forward. He doesn’t dwell, unless we lost a game and he needs to get on some guys. But mentally you got to turn the page.

As things play out, Bill Belichick is going to enjoy some time in Nantucket while taking a bit of a break. He is most certainly going to be on the phone with Steve throughout the spring!
