The Bill Belichick Era at North Carolina is now solidly underway and it has already had its ups and downs. The initial outlook on Belichick’s current roster with the Tar Heels is far from optimistic. His quarterback situation in particular looks especially dire. But not all hope is lost. Belichick appears to off to a good start on the recruiting trail and there’s undeniably a level of hype around the UNC program that was not there a year ago.

However, there is one particularly bizarre element about Belichick’s time at UNC so far. That element is the involvement of his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson. Much has been made about Belichick, 72, dating a woman a third of his age. But the weirder aspect still is that Hudson appears to have taken an official role with the Tar Heels program.

The former college cheerleader already had a hand in Belichick and the Tar Heels turning down a Hard Knocks-style HBO show according to Charlotte Wilder’s The Sports Gossip Show. Wilder reported that Hudson shut down the show with UNC sighting “creative control” as the actual reason.

“Remember how we said last week we were pretty sure the reason UNC Hard Knocks was not happening was because the ‘creative control issues’ were actually code for ‘Jordon Hudson wanted to be more involved in some capacity?’” Wilder asked co-host Madeline Hill. “I heard from a source, very trusted, that that is the truth.”

But that’s not all.

The Assembly higher education reporter Matt Hartman revealed Thursday that Belichick is requiring staff members to carbon copy Hudson on all matters pertaining to social media.

“I am including Jordon on this email so she can keep up with our postings,” Belichick told senior associate athletic director Robbi Pickeral Evan in an email reply. “Can you include her on anything you send to me? Thanks.”

Now, you might say “it’s only a matter of social media.” And that is true! But for one, social media is important in major college football these days. And secondly, Hudson appears to have way more control of Belichick’s professional life than she should. Surely that won’t end poorly for the Tar Heels…
