UConn basketball guard Cam Spencer has a bone to pick with Bill Murray. The legendary actor and comedian ate his donuts.
Fortunately, a victory tastes sweeter than any kind of pastry!
Spencer, a fifth-year senior, scored 11 points with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in the national championship win over Purdue on Monday. He is also considered to be the energy guy on the team, so his team is often most impacted by the intangibles that he brings to the floor.
Dan Hurley considers him something of a “mini me” and it’s not hard to see why.
Although Spencer had a phenomenal season, Murray really put a damper on his year. (Not really!)
The 24-year-old guard spent a few years in Rhode Island growing up and some of his family friends attended one of his games earlier this year. They brought him a dozen donuts from a donut shop that he often frequented as a kid and sent them back to the locker room for after the game.
As soon as the clock hit zero, Spencer had just one thing on his mind.
However, he had to take the time to go see his friends and family in the crowd. It took him a moment to get off of the court.
That ended up being a big problem.
Murray made his way back into UConn’s locker room during those few minutes. His son, Luke, is on Hurley’s staff so he often hangs out with the team. And on that particular day, he overstepped!
The 73-year-old started to distribute Spencer’s donuts to some of his teammates and even ate a few himself. GASP!
Word got back to Spencer that one of the most famous people in Hollywood was giving out his highly-coveted donuts, which led him to wrap things up and get back to his locker as soon as possible. Fortunately, there were still enough to enjoy. Unfortunately, half of his dozen donuts was gone by the time he got there.
Spencer continues to hold his (very insignificant) grudge toward Murray to this day!
