The Kansas Jayhawks hosted the Louisville Cardinals for a men’s basketball scrimmage at Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday night, which meant the return of former Kansas forward Flory Bidunga, who transferred to Louisville in the offseason.

Safe to say, Jayhawks fans were not exactly welcoming, greeting Bidunga with all sorts of profane chants, including “f— you, Flory.” Bidunga put up five points, three rebounds, and one block in an 89-83 victory for the Cardinals.

Afterward, he was understanding of the vitriol coming from Kansas supporters.

“They’re rooting for Kansas. I understand. Fans are going to be fans,” Bidunga said. “They want Kansas to be great, so that means they’ll say whatever they have to. Well, y’all heard what they said, but I didn’t pay attention. We had a mission. We came here. Y’all saw my teammates take care of the ball, take care of the game, so I’m really excited and proud of them.”

But Jayhawks coach Bill Self wasn’t as gracious toward his own fans.

Bill Self Says Kansas Fans Were Out Of Line With Chants Toward Flory Bidunga

“I actually expected Flory to get booed,” Self said in his postgame press conference. “Anything beyond that is uncalled for, but I expected him to get booed. And you know what? When you transfer, or I take another job or something, and you go back to that place, that’s what happens. That’s the way it should be. That’s what creates interest. Flory knows that. But anything beyond that, I don’t agree with at all, especially when he gave us two really good years, and he was a terrific kid.”

Self continued to emphasize that he’s fine with boos. But the profane chants are where he draws the line.

“I think it’s fine that people react a certain way. If he wasn’t any good, nobody would care,” he said. “People care. So, that’s part of it. But anything more than that, no, I wouldn’t appreciate it.”

Meanwhile, Kansas recently added former Purdue star Trey Kaufman-Renn, who joined the team this week after winning an injunction for a sixth season. Kaufman-Renn did not play for the Jayhawks in the scrimmage.
