Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi was pulled from Tuesday’s 7-1 win over the New York Yankees after 5 innings. It would later be revealed that he was pulled for ‘cramps’ but it was the potential cause of those cramps that was the biggest revelation of all.

Toronto Blue Jays beat writer Kaitlyn McGrath shared after the game that Yusei Kikuchi believed he would be fine for his next start.

According to McGrath’s post-game tweet, Yusei Kikuchi went on to say the reason he believes he suffered from cramps is that he only got 11 hours of sleep instead of his usual 13 to 14 hours of sleep each night.

McGrath went on to add that Yusei Kikuchi’s normal sleep schedule is going to sleep at 11 PM and waking up at 1 PM each day…. Does he not pitch day games?

One more time for the people in the back: Yusei Kikuchi sleeps an average of 13 to 14 hours EVERY NIGHT. He sleeps so much that he believes ONLY getting 11 hours of sleep would cause him to suffer cramps.

How much do adults really need to sleep?

On average, adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night. It varies from person to person. Only you can truly know if you are getting enough sleep and you’ll know that by waking up rested.

There was a time in life (college) when I slept 12+ hours several nights a week. These days, I’m lucky to get 7 hours a night unless I opt to go to sleep while the sun is still up. Sleep is at a PREMIUM in this household and this man is out here flaunting 13 to 14 hours of sleep each night like he’s suffering for only getting 11!

Including this season, Kikuchi has made $60.1 million pitching for the Blue Jays and Mariners. He stands to make another $10 million next year with the Jays.

My man is out here making $10 million/year and doesn’t even wake up until 1 PM on most days. I’d take that life over the stress of a CEO who makes 100x but works 10x his hours any day. He is living the dream.

How To Fall Asleep In 120 Seconds

Sleep research is a billion dollar industry. Unimaginable resources are poured into getting better sleep to the public.

One such method to achieving better sleep was discovered years ago. It is referred to as a ‘military method‘ but that has been a point of contention from military readers in the past. The method is simple:

1. Relax the muscles in your face, including the jaw, tongue and those around the eyes
2. Let your shoulders drop, and relax both sides of the upper and lower arms
3. Breathe out, keeping the chest relaxed
4. Relax both the upper and lower parts of your legs

Boom. Better and faster sleep. Give it a shot.
