Luke Murray reportedly played a role in Boston College broadcast firings.
According to a new report, new Boston College basketball coach Luke Murray ghosted two longtime Eagles broadcasters before requesting their firing three months before the season.
That story put a negative spotlight on the current staff ahead of Murray’s debut season. The school released a statement denying the accusations on Monday.
Both sides have provided their accounts of what transpired behind closed doors. The optics are poor. Boston College is doing damage control.

Luke Murray allegedly ghosted Boston College announcers.
A piece was published by Awful Announcing this week detailing the surprising turn of events. Kevin Collins and Josh Maurer are no longer a part of the Eagles’ broadcast team.
That decision, according to the staffers, was directly influenced by Murray.
“He’s a young head coach, no experience, and he’s being given the power to take two guys’ careers away from them who have done nothing but try to serve the program and promote the program.”

Murray replaced former coach Earl Grant in the spring. Collins and Maurer reportedly tried to reach out for introductions. They were denied that opportunity time and again.
“I was always told either Coach Murray is off recruiting, or we have an official visit today, and it’s not a good day, we’ve got a lot going on.”

The duo attempted different avenues when seeking a face-to-face meetup. Those included offering catered lunches, making requests through the multimedia rights partner, and speaking directly with athletic administration to schedule an appointment.
Each time, they were turned away. Spring quickly turned to summer. When August rolled around, both broadcasters were unemployed.
Despite the refusal to meet, Collins and Maurer were assured in March that no changes were coming. That changed last week.
The reason provided, according to the teammates, was that Murray did not want any links to the “losing mentality” fostered by the previous coaching staff. That apparently included the broadcast crew.
“The reasoning that I was given was that Coach Murray basically wants a whole new fresh coat of paint on the entire program and wants no remnants of the past around the program.
“We have nothing to do with any of that. But he wanted us removed. Didn’t feel comfortable being around a link to the past, if you will. My challenge was, well, how can he not feel comfortable around us? He hasn’t even given us the chance to meet us.”

Collins said he even offered to work off-air. That, too, was denied.
The two announcers have worked side-by-side for nearly a decade. Collins has been with the program for 13 years. He survived three coaching changes and five athletic director hires. He was unable to stick around after the latest shakeup.
It’s a bad look for Luke Murray as neither Boston College broadcaster had anything to do with the on-court product. Assistant coaching changes are expected. If true, this seems a blatant overreach.
Furthermore, the timing of the firings has left Collins and Maurer with few options to find steady employment for the 2026-27 season.
Murray previously worked on staff for Dan Hurley at UCONN where he was a part of two national title teams. He’s also held notable positions at Louisville, Xavier, and Rhode Island.
This is his first head coaching job. It’s not gotten off to the best of starts.
The Eagles have denied the accusation.
The school released a statement, which was posted by Jeff Goodman in response to the report. It insists that it was a decision made by administration in consultation with the school’s multimedia rights partner, Van Wagner.
The decision to not renew the contracts of our men’s basketball radio announcers was made by Boston College Athletics administrators in consultation with our MMR partner. We wish both Kevin and Josh the best going forward.

Again, the optics are poor. Boston College is attempting to control the damage. It wants to shield its coach from blame. For now, we have the Eagles’ word against that of the broadcasters.
Luke Murray was hired to replace Earl Grant at Boston College in March. Grant posted one winning season in five years.
Grant’s inability to win mirrored his predecessors. The Eagles have just two seasons above .500 over the last decade and a half.
Some blame coaching. Many, however, blame resources. Boston College has been either unable or unwilling to make an investment in the basketball program.
Blake James opened up on financial struggles in Massachusetts. He says the school is lacking in third-party NIL support.
James revealed that the basketball team received 15% of revenue share last year, equating to around $3 million. Others around the country were shelling out nearly tenfold.
The small NIL budget has impacted success. Luke Murray hopes to turn the tides at Boston College. He will do so while navigating controversy with a new staff and broadcast crew. We’ll see if the changes create a spark.
