Last season, football fans watched the NFL’s class of rookie quarterbacks have one of the most disappointing first seasons we’ve ever seen from a group of quarterbacks. Zach Wilson struggled through his rookie year. He threw for 9 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and at one point had Jets fans wondering if Mike White should have been starting over him.

Justin Fields wasn’t any better as he threw for 7 TDs and 10 interceptions while being sacked repeatedly. Trevor Lawrence went 3-14 in his first season and only threw 1 TD from Week 8 to Week 15. Trey Lance barely saw the field and was underwhelming when he did.

With all of those struggles from the first year quarterbacks, some of them could be a bit concerned about their job security heading into year 2. According to Brady Quinn, there’s one in particular who should be worried about what will happen if he doesn’t have a good year this year. That QB is Zach Wilson.

While discussing the struggles he’s expecting for the New York Jets this season, he revealed that he believes Wilson could be replaced if the he struggles in his second season.

“As good as the roster has improved, I just haven’t been a believer in Zach Wilson. I think that this is an unbelievably difficult schedule that lightens up in the second half but they could be decimated by that point so I’ve got them winning five games and probably going back to the drawing board at the quarterback position in the 2023 NFL Draft.”

It would certainly be surprising to see the Jets move on from the 2nd pick in last year’s draft so quickly, but it isn’t necessarily unprecedented. The Cardinals used the 1st overall pick to draft Kyler Murray just a year after taking Josh Rosen with the 10th pick. The move has worked out pretty well for them.

With a ton of hype surrounding the 2023 quarterback class, Zach Wilson is going to need to make some huge improvements this season or he could be sweating out day 1 of the draft next year.
