Breathtaking NASCAR Finish At Atlanta Has Fans Proclaiming It The Best Race Ever

Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of the most beloved tracks on the entire NASCAR calendar.

So when the track announced it was tearing up the old surface in order to entirely reconfigure the track prior to the 2022 season, it raised some eyebrows.

But after Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series finish, which saw winner Daniel Suarez beat runner-up Ryan Blaney and third-place Kyle Busch both by less than .01 of a second, nobody has any more questions.

It was the third-closest finish in series history and the closest margin of victory between first and third place in NASCAR history.

Not only that, but the race also featured a track-record 48 lead changes.

Those numbers come on a track that has produced countless close finishes prior to the repave, including Kevin Harvick’s iconic first win in place of Dale Earnhardt following the latter’s death in the 2001 Daytona 500.

The combination of constant lead changes and an insanely tight finish had fans calling it one of, if not the best race they’d ever seen.

“Hands down the best race I’ve watched in recent years. None of that bull “fuel saving/riding.” This was actual racing, and it was awesome!!! I’m so happy @ATLMotorSpdwy did such a bad a– job at reconfiguring this track. This was the most exciting race in a long time! @NASCAR,” one fan tweeted.”

Best finish to a race that I’ve seen in a long time and probably the best race the next gen has produced. Today’s race definitely made up for the lackluster xfinity race yesterday,” said another.

Jeff Gluck of The Athletic kept things short and sweet, tweeting “Legendary Race. Simply Legendary.”

Thankfully for NASCAR and its fans, the series returns to Atlanta later this season for the first race of its annual playoffs.

Although topping Sunday’s race will be a tall task.
