Two high school football players at Carol City will be suspended by the FHSAA for Week 2 after a heated scuffle in Week 1. However, the Miami-based Chiefs are playing their next game on the road in Georgia.

The heated high school football altercation creates a unique dilemma surrounding state-by-state jurisdiction. The rules may not apply across state boundaries.
Carol City started the high school football season at 1-0.
Miami Carol City Senior High School is located in Miami Gardens, Florida. Established in 1963, it enrolls approximately 800 students in Grades 9-12. The Chiefs compete in Class 2A, District 8 of the Florida High School Athletic Association. Their football program is one of the top contenders in Class 2A and an Open Division hopeful as the No. 11 ranked team in the country.
Carol City began the 2026 high school football season on the road at Mainland on Friday. It went on to win the game by a final score of 38-3 after a lengthy lightning delay.
The Chiefs did not get out of Daytona Beach unscathed. Two players were ejected from the contest for unsportsmanlike conduct. Those players will also be suspended for their next game. FHSAA rule requires any ejected player to sit the next week.

The incident took place during the first quarter. Mainland took a snap out of the shotgun. Carol City’s defensive line very quickly broke into the backfield. The quarterback immediately flicked the ball over the middle of the field for an incompletion.
That did not stop the Chiefs from pushing deeper into the backfield. The free defensive lineman grabbed onto the quarterback, picked him up over his head and threw him down to the ground. The crowd audibly reacted to the violent tackle. It was more like a power bomb.

Although the above video does not show the entire sequence of events, a scuffle ensued. According to the Observer, two players from Carol City were ejected from the contest. One player from Mainland was ejected. As was an assistant coach.
Per FHSAA rules, the players who were suspended must also sit out their next game. This is where things get murky.
The Chiefs are playing on the road against the Lee County Trojans on Friday. Lee County High School is located in Leesburg, Georgia. The FHSAA does not have jurisdiction over games played in Georgia. The Georgia High School Association does not have jurisdiction over high school football teams from Florida.
Will Carol City choose to play its two ejected players anyway? Or will it sit them out and get the suspension out of the way?
