Arizona football coach Brent Brennan next to a row of tequila shots
Winning is somewhat obviously the best way to end up in the good graces of fans if you’re a college football coach. Brent Brennan has checked that box more often than not since arriving in Arizona, but he went out of his way to endear himself in the wake of the latest Wildcats victory by stopping by a bar near campus and buying fans hundreds of shots of tequila.
Brent Brennan is currently in the midst of his third season as the head coach at Arizona, and while he got off to a rough start after the Wildcats went 4-8 during his inaugural campaign in 2024, things have been trending in the right direction since then.
The team went 9-4 last year while capping things off with a loss in the Holiday Bowl, and they’ve been quietly making their way up the AP Poll after bouncing back from a Week 2 loss against BYU with five straight wins and amassing a conference record that has put them toward the top of the Big 12 standings.
Arizona will face one of its biggest tests of the season when it faces off against #13 Texas Tech on Saturday, and there’s also a showdown with Utah midway through November that is poised to present a major challenge.
However, the vibes in Tucson are currently pretty immaculate for the 6-1 Wildcats, and their head coach did what he could to boost them after stopping by a bar filled with fans after their most recent game.
Brent Brennan spent $2,000 on 300 shots of tequila for Arizona fans after beating Iowa State
Brennan, who spent seven years as the head coach at San Jose State before taking over at Arizona, has done what he can to curry favor with members of the Arizona faithful since seizing the reins.
Prior to last weekend’s homecoming game against Iowa State, he bought 1,000 tickets that he donated to charitable organizations and youth football programs in the area, and the kids who got to attend the game on his dime watched the Wildcats cruise to a 39-3 victory over the Cyclones.
According to the Arizona Daily Star, Brennan decided to make a quick detour while heading home from the stadium by popping into Dirtbag’s, a popular bar located right next to campus. He spent what he described as an ” expensive five minutes” inside, as he placed an order for 300 shots of tequila that were distributed to fans who were able to take advantage of the $2,000 tab he covered himself.
Brennan said the move was reflective of his overall philosophy as a head coach, noting:
“For me, I’ve said it since I got here and it’s been a thing for me the whole time I’ve been a head coach, I think it’s important that if you want people to show up for you, you gotta show up for them.
It was an easy way for me to pop in there, with all of our alumni in town for homecoming, the excitement from the game, to go in there, and say hello and get out…
Just wanted to invest in our fans and let them know how much we appreciate them as a football team.”
That’s certainly not going to hurt.
