It’s been a wild retirement for the Green Bay Packers legend. This year alone has been absolutely bonkers as Brett Favre is in the middle of a welfare scandal with the state of Mississippi. He finally emerged from the depths and released a statement regarding the allegations against him.

Brett Favre Declares His Innocence While Blasting The Media Over Mississippi Welfare Scandal

According to Fox News, the former Packers quarterback tells all while declaring his innocence. Brett Favre also made sure to blast news outlets over the entire situation as well. “I have been unjustly smeared in the media. I have done nothing wrong, and it is past time to set the record straight.” Favre continues by explaining his side of the story.

“No one ever told me, and I did not know, that funds designated for welfare recipients were going to the University or me. I tried to help my alma mater USM, a public Mississippi state university, raise funds for a wellness center. My goal was and always will be to improve the athletic facilities at my university,” per Fox News.

Brett Favre doesn’t end there though, as he continues pleading his case. “State agencies provided the funds to Nancy New’s charity, the Mississippi Community Education Center, which then gave the funds to the University, all with the full knowledge and approval of other State agencies, including the State-wide Institute for Higher Learning, the Governor’s office and the Attorney General’s office.” The Hall of Fame quarterback also claims everything was finalized by “State attorneys and State employees.”

All of that is fine and dandy, however, the allegations against Brett Favre are still alarming. Especially considering everyone involved has already pleaded guilty, per Fox News.

We’ll see how it plays out for Favre. Although he continues to claim his innocence, the allegations against him are still open. As of now, no criminal charges have been filed against Brett Favre.
