LSU head football coach Brian Kelly seemingly confirmed the Commanders‘ plan to draft QB Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

He let the secret slip while speaking to the media at the Tigers‘ recent Pro Day event.

Washington is widely expected to take a passer with its first pick this April. The offense saw a revolving door under center in 2022, watching Carson Wentz, Taylor Heinicke, and Sam Howell each make starts.

Howell landed the keys last season but did little to impress with the team scoring less than 20 points a game and finishing with a 4-13 overall record.

There’s a belief that the organization is ready to move in a new direction.

The consensus is that Caleb Williams will be taken first overall by the Bears, leaving the Commanders to decide between other first-round talents Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and JJ McCarthy.

According to Brian Kelly, Daniels is their guy!

“Jayden Daniels is going to get the ball out to his playmakers and make plays for Washington,” the head coach said while speaking to the media on Thursday.

What does Brian Kelly know?!

That would come as no surprise to analysts like Dan Orlovsky, who rated Daniels as the best quarterback in the class.

If it does happen, it would cause a few other picks to fall into place shortly thereafter. There are some who believe the first four selections will be quarterbacks, which would be a first in NFL history, though it would likely involve a few trades at the No. 3 and 4 spots.

We’ll see if Brian Kelly is actually in the know very soon!

The NFL Draft is set to begin on April 25th, and the Commanders will be on the clock early.
