Brittney Griner’s head coach is not happy fans didn’t turn out in droves for Griner’s first game back since being released from a Russian prison.

On Saturday night, 10,000 fans showed up at the 19,000-seat Crypto.com arena for the Mercury’s game against the LA Sparks.

After the game, Mercury head coach Vanessa Nygaard scolded LA fans for not selling out the arena for Griner’s return.

“I mean, it was great. But like honestly, c’mon now LA. We didn’t sell out the arena for BG? Like, I expected more, you know, to be honest. Right, it was great, it was loud. But how was it not a sellout? How was it not a sellout,” Vanessa Nygaard said after the game.

Griner seemed to be grateful just to be playing basketball again.

“It was nice to be back on the court and in a real game and everything. The love from the fans who came out was amazing and the players. I definitely felt it and I felt it when I was there (Russia),”
