Baker Mayfield wants out of Cleveland, hence his formal trade request, but that doesn’t mean the Browns have to deal him.

It’s clear that Mayfield didn’t appreciate the Browns meeting with Deshaun Watson in an attempt to lure him to Cleveland. Mayfield let his feelings about the situation be known abundantly clear by posting a lengthy, cyrptic message on Instagram earlier in the week.

Now that the dysfunctional Browns are out of the running for Watson, they want to keep Mayfield around, but Mayfield isn’t having it.

At the end of the day, the Browns are Mayfield’s employer, not the other way around, and with that, he could be stuck in Cleveland.

Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot thinks that that’s exactly what’s going to happen, she sees Mayfield suiting up for the Browns next season.

“I do believe right now that their intent is to bring back Baker Mayfield and have him be the starting quarterback, even though he doesn’t want that right now,” Cabot said on ‘The Herd.’

“I think they feel he’s their best option for right now and they’re not just going to trade him for the sake of trading him.”

Things between Mayfield and Browns fans haven’t exactly been perfect for quite some time now, and this latest development surely won’t help the QB.

Mayfield and the Browns could mend things before the start of the season, but as it stands right now, it’s tough to imagine a worse situation for the two parties.
