Bad news for people who hate gender reveals: future baseball Hall of Famer and Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper not only did one, but did one during the middle of a Phillies game, during an at-bat.

During the Philadelphia Phillies’ 10-4 home loss to the San Francisco Giants on Monday, April 14, the Phillies first baseman and slugger stepped up the plate in the first inning with a blue bat.

According to the Phillies’ broadcast, the bat, handed to him by teammate Trea Turner, was part of a gender reveal. Harper struck out and was ultimately 1-for-5 on the night.

“I got a text message with the gender. I messed with him a little bit in the dugout. I picked up the pink one and swung it around a little bit. He thought he was having a girl, so I had to mess with him a little bit. Sure enough, it was a boy. I ended up handing him the blue one, and he was pretty happy,” Turner said.

“Like I said, he thought he was having a girl. So when I was messing with him, he was like, ‘I knew it was a girl.’ Then, I handed him the blue one. I said, ‘You’re not going to need that pink one.’ He was just excited. I think he would have been excited either way, but now, he’s got two of each. Kind of a complete family already, but like I said, anytime you can add another person to the family, I think it’s special. I think he was super excited.”

Bryce Harper and his wife Kayla already have three children together: Krew Aron, born August 2019, Brooklyn Elizabeth, born November 2020, and Kamryn Ray, born April 2024.

Through the first 16 games of the 2025 MLB season, the 32-year-old Harper has a .245 batting average with two home runs and five RBIs.
