Bryce Underwood cannot jump higher than Fred Richard. The Olympic gymnast took down the starting quarterback at the University of Michigan in a head-to-head competition.

It was actually a lot closer than I expected.

Underwood is considered to be one of the most freakish athletes in college football and it isn’t hard to see why. But he still couldn’t keep pace with someone 12 inches shorter!

Who is Fred Richard?

There may not be a more viral (active) gymnast in the world right now. Richard, 22, boasts more than 800,000 followers on Instagram, more than 400,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 900,000 followers on TikTok. He started posting videos to social media under the pseudonym ‘FrederickFlips’ during the pandemic in 2020. His brand has obviously exploded over the last five years.

However, Frederick Richard is far more than an internet personality. He is an elite athlete.

The Massachusetts-native burst onto the scene at the men’s gymnastics national championships in 2021, where he won the junior all-around title. Richard later joined the Michigan Wolverines for 2022-23 season while also representing the United States in various international competitions.

Fast forward to June 2024. Fred Richard played first in the all-around competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials to earn his spot on Team USA for Paris. He contributed strong scores on floor exercise, rings, parallel bars and horizontal bar. The United States Men’s Gymnastics team win its first team medal since 2008.

Richard ultimately returned to Ann Arbor and won the all-around title during the 2025 NCAA men’s gymnastics championship. His performance helped the Wolverines to win their seventh team title.

You get the idea. Richard is an incredible athlete with a massive following on social media.

Bryce Underwood could not out-jump an Olympic gymnast.

One of Fred Richard’s most compelling series pits him against elite athletes in other sports. Who can jump the highest?

Bryce Underwood, the starting quarterback at Michigan, recently took the challenge. He and Richard recently linked up in Ann Arbor.

Richard taught Underwood how to backflip, which surely made Wolverines fans hold their breath. (He already had one, don’t worry!!)

And then they went head-to-head in a jump off. Fred Richard stands 5-foot-5. Bryce Underwood is 6-foot-4. There is a significant height advantage.

Underwood kept up with Richard at six feet, which is extremely impressive. He could not clear 6-foot-4.

Richard won again. However, Underwood put on an impressive display of athleticism. They call him ‘Batman’ for a reason. It was like he jumped onto a perch to overlook Gotham City.
