Bryson DeChambeau’s New Putting Stroke Is…Interesting

I’m all for innovation and creativity in the game of golf, but this new putting technique that Bryson DeChambeau is testing out at the Franklin Templeton Shootout makes me want to scream “NOPE” every time I watch it. DeChambeau’s biggest struggles during the 2016 PGA Tour season were on the greens, but this seems like and EXTREME fix. Even someone with severe putting yips has several options before going side-saddle. Just look at this!

I get it, DeChambeau is eccentric. His approach to golf is non-conventional. And sure, he made a putt from five feet with it, but let’s me see how that holds up under tournament pressure and from over 30 feet. I give this experiment no more than three months before he comes to his senses and starts using a claw grip or a Kuchar grip. No fucking way this has staying power.
