Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is setting his sights on a notable record by NFL legend Jerry Rice as he enters his 10th season in the league.

Evans has achieved an impressive feat by amassing over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first nine seasons, putting him in close proximity to Rice’s record for consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

Rice, widely regarded as one of the greatest receivers of all time, achieved this remarkable milestone by recording 11 straight seasons with over 1,000 yards during his illustrious tenure with the San Francisco 49ers.

During an interview at his youth football camp with Ari Alexander of KPRC, Evans expressed his primary focus on winning but also revealed his desire to etch his name alongside Rice’s in the NFL record books.

Evans acknowledged that the prospect of surpassing Rice’s record is constantly on his mind, recognizing the significance of the achievement.

“I think about it,” Evans admitted. “It’s right there, so I’m definitely going to try to get that. I’m already one of one right now. I hope I can pass the great Jerry Rice and his record. Obviously, nobody will surpass his overall records—probably ever. But having that 1,000-yard streak record would be cool.”

Jerry Rice’s dominance in the NFL is unparalleled, as he holds numerous receiving records, including most career receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. His legacy as one of the greatest players in league history remains intact, making any attempt to surpass his overall records an arduous task.

As the Buccaneers approach the 2023 season, they find themselves without a settled starting quarterback following the retirement of the legendary Tom Brady.

The identity of their signal-caller for the upcoming season remains uncertain, leaving Evans to anticipate whether veteran Baker Mayfield or the raw Kyle Trask will be the one helping him chase after yet another milestone on his path to the record books.

With his impressive track record and consistency, Mike Evans has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL. We’ll now have to wait and see if he breaks Rice’s records.
