The Buffalo Sabres are headed to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after clinching the Atlantic Division in the East. That is a feat that virtually nobody outside (or inside) of Buffalo thought possible at the start of the season but they proved all the haters wrong.
After clinching their division, the Buffalo Sabres are pulling receipts on their haters and that list notably includes former NHL star and current Spittin’ Chiclets host Ryan Whitney.
Buffalo Sabres Roast Ryan Whitney
Earlier today, the Buffalo Sabres took to X with an announcement that read “Hey sabrehood. Sabres Admin here. We’ve been through a lot together. But specifically, I’VE been through a lot. Tomorrow is the last day of the regular season, so it seems like a good time to get some things off my chest. And so, today is now dedicated to the RECEIPTS.”
Ryan Whitney was far from the only doubter but as co-host of Spittin’ Chiclets he is certainly one of the most prominent in hockey media. His bold prediction of “Buffalo’s not making the Playoffs… 0.000%” was such a hard line drawn in the sand it was certain to come back to haunt him if Buffalo made it to the postseason.
When Buffalo sent out that message on X, Ryan Whitney knew they had him in their crosshairs. He replied with this:

X / Ryan Whitney
After making him sweat it out a little bit, the Sabres revealed they had put his message up on a billboard in Buffalo for the whole city to see.

If you thought that was a green screen then you thought wrong. Ryan Whitney himself confirmed it was real in this clip:

It didn’t stop with Ryan Whitney, however. The Buffalo Sabres have kept receipts on everyone who doubted them. All of the haters, the naysayers, anyone who doubted them is getting roasted today after they climched the division:

Good on them for celebrating this achievement. Of course, nothing in the regular season matters after tomorrow. Celebrate all they want today but if they get swept in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after this victory lap it might be the most embarrassing stunt in NHL social media history. Alas, the Sabres are solid and the chances of them getting swept are very minimal.
