Football fans are still a year away from getting to see Caleb Williams make the jump to the NFL, but that hasn’t stopped him from being compared to NFL QBs already.

Earlier this week, a prominent QB guru called Williams the next Patrick Mahomes during a conversation with Adam Schefter.

Yesterday Williams was asked about the comparison and had a bold response. He told CBS Sports Radio’s Zach Gelb that he doesn’t see Mahomes doing anything that he can’t do.

It’s pretty cool, I’d say, just because everybody watches Patrick and sees all the cool things he can do. I always said even in high school that I don’t think there’s anything — obviously, he’s special, but I don’t think there’s anything that I can’t do that he’s doing out there.

Williams looks likely to do something this season that Mahomes never did. Williams is currently the favorite to win this season’s Heisman Trophy.

Still, it may be a bit early for the Mahomes comparisons. Williams has been impressive in his first 2 college seasons, but he hasn’t been putting up video game numbers like Patrick Mahomes did during his last year at Texas Tech.

In 2016, Mahomes threw for 5052 yards and 41 touchdowns and had a game against Oklahoma where he threw for 734 yards and 5 touchdowns in a duel against Baker Mayfield. That season likely would have had him in the conversation for a Heisman of his own if he had played for a better team.

Whether or not these comparison are already warranted, they are sure to put plenty of pressure on Williams from the second his NFL career begins.
