Caleb Williams appeared to take a shot at TCU quarterback Max Duggan on social media Sunday afternoon. Williams threw a jab Duggan’s way for his emotional postgame press conference following a loss in the Big XII Championship Game.

Duggan was seen visibly upset after the upset loss, the Horned Frogs’ first setback of the season. After going into overtime and coming up just inches short of an undefeated season, Duggan was teary eyed as he answered questions from the media.

And expectedly so. The quarterback laid it all on the line in the loss, throwing for more than 250 yards and running for another 110. He scored a pair of touchdowns and nearly led his team to an incredible come-from-behind win. Unfortunately, they couldn’t finish the job in overtime, and the Kansas State Wildcats became the 2022 conference champs.

After the game, the emotions got the best of Duggan.

Robert Griffin III posted the video of Duggan’s postgame interview with the caption, “How can you not root for Max Duggan?”

Apparently, Caleb Williams can’t root for him.

In the press conference, Duggan was asked about the loss and how it could affect TCU’s College Football Playoff chances. He lobbied a bit for the Horned Frogs, those tears pulling on the heartstrings of viewers.

USC quarterback Caleb William didn’t think the show was genuine, and he commented on RGIII’s post with a tweet that’s now been deleted.

Williams simply said, “LOL,” to the video, reposting it to his timeline. After receiving some blowback on the tweet, he posted another message to clear the air.

Wasn’t laughing at Max D!! Happy for him, his journey, his team, and his passion for his school. I feel the same way after we lost this year.

With us athletes we put in so much work and so passionate about our work that it’s hurts to not achieve what you worked so hard for!!!

Williams attempted to clarify that the jab was more directed at media and fans that put him down for getting emotional after his most recent loss. Painting “F*** Utah” on his fingernails probably didn’t land him much sympathy from viewers, though.

TCU did in fact get into the playoff field, landing the No. 3 spot to set up a matchup against the Michigan Wolverines. Caleb Williams and USC will play in the Cotton Bowl versus Tulane.
