Caleb Williams is one of the most polarizing NFL Draft prospects of all-time… for seemingly no reason.
People love to hate on things they cannot understand, and the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback does not make sense to a large vocal minority. How can a grown man who wears nail polish be so good?
The negative narratives surrounding Williams reached their peak at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
He chose not to go through any of the drills and became the first athlete in history to withhold his medical information from all 32 teams. As could be expected, a decision that was best for him drew a lot of criticism because other people were not able to wrap their heads around a thought process that is not theirs. A lot of shots were fired at Williams.
This is nothing new. The 22-year-old is deaf to the outside criticism at this point. He just does him.
And in doing so, Caleb Williams silenced all of the “character concerns” that continue to drive headlines.
Even though he did not participate in any of the drills, the soon-to-be No. 1 overall pick was the last quarterback remaining on the field on Saturday night. Williams made sure to thank every single person who helped to facilitate an event in which he did not partake.
Laura Rutledge provided an additional anecdote to supplement Peter Schrager’s report. She said that Williams went out of his way to include every single person in the room during an interview for ESPN.
When we interviewed Caleb this week, he made a point to introduce himself to our entire production crew. May seem like a small thing but that’s a rare gesture in our business.

Surely the people who are so quick to bash the superstar signal-caller will recognize the little things. They will definitely be rational in their assessment of Williams as a person and take his actions into account beyond his colorful nails and desire to watch Netflix with his dog.
