Calvin Johnson is a massive human being and his monstrous frame actually managed to make D.K. Metcalf looked as if he is a normal-sized person. He, of course, is not a normal-sized person.
Megatron is a giant!!
Johnson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, is one of the greatest wide receivers of all-time. His career does not get the shine it deserves because the Detroit Lions were never that good. It also came to something of an early end after just nine seasons.
Even though he might’ve been able to keep playing, there wasn’t anything more for Johnson to accomplish as an individual. He set the all-time NFL record for most receiving yards in a single season and made 731 catches for 11,619 yards and 83 touchdowns en route to the Hall of Fame.
There are very few players who draw comparison to Johnson and Metcalf is one of them. They are both above-average in terms of height and weight. Especially at their position.
Johnson was listed at 6-foot-5, 237 pounds. Metcalf is listed at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds.
Either the former was understated or the latter is overstated because Johnson made Metcalf look small. They linked up before kickoff in Detroit on Monday night and the size difference was surprising.
Not only did Johnson look like he had a few inches on Metcalf, they seemed to be of equal body composition in terms of muscular structure. That’s even more impressive considering that the only active player involved in the exchange was wearing pads.
Their age is also part of the conversation here. D.K. Metcalf is 26 years old. Calvin Johnson is 39.
The former Lions pass-catcher looks like he could suit up right now and go toe-to-toe with the Seahawks receiver. Metcalf made seven catches for 104 yards in a loss on Monday night. It sure seems like Johnson could’ve kept pace!
