Cam Newton is a free agent after getting released by the Carolina Panthers and is looking for a new opportunity to restart his career.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Cam is looking for a starting job somewhere in the league and is interested in signing with the New England Patriots who are in need of a starting QB after Tom Brady left to the Bucs a few weeks ago.

As of now the Patriots have not shown much interest in Newton for whatever reason and are planning to move forward with Jarrett Stidham as their starting QB.

a source has said the Patriots have expressed no interest in signing Cam Newton or trading for Andy Dalton — the two most popular speculated moves — nor do they have the cap space to make such a transaction. So it’ll be Stidham. It’d hardly be a surprise if they open camp with Hoyer as the starter and force Stidham to wrest away the job, but a dose of adversity should help the kid if that’s the route they choose. Either way, as long as Stidham maintains his pace from last summer, it should be his job.”

The Patriots might be forced to take a look at Newton considering many. including ESPN’s Todd McShay don’t believe Stidham is ready to start in the NFL.

From everyone I talk to in the organization, they’re excited about [Stidham’s] development. He has so much potential. He is gifted. He’s been through a lot in his life. He’s got some character and some grittiness and some toughness to him,” . “But he’s not ready yet. That’s the bottom line. He is not ready to lead the New England Patriots yet, in my opinion.”
