Cam Skattebo was not held out by the New York Giants against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. However, his lack of carries during the game had a direct impact on sports betting totals.
Gamblers who wagered on the second-year running back are calling for their bets to be voided because he was benched.
Neither the Giants nor the NFL and its insiders revealed Skattebo’s lack of role on offense until the hours leading up to kickoff. That lack of announcement gave a huge advantage to the sportsbooks.
Cam Skattebo did not get a single rushing attempt in the first half.
The first five games of Cam Skattebo’s sophomore season in the NFL did not go well. The former fourth-round draft pick averaged 0.5 yards less per carry in 2026 compared to 2025 and fumbled four times. He struggled to hold on to the ball.
As a result, head coach John Harbaugh decided to make a switch in Week 6. It was announced just a few hours before kickoff that the New York Giants were going to go with a running back by committee.
Skattebo’s role would be decreased. Najee Harris got the start. Devin Singletary and Tyrone Tracy were going to be more involved.
And that is exactly what happened!
The Giants ran the ball 13 times during the first half. Six different players recorded a carry: Darnell Mooney, Devin Singletary, Jameis Winston, Tyrone Tracy, Najee Harris and J.J. McCarthy. Cam Skattebo did not record a carry. He was only on the field as a blocker.
Sports gamblers want their bets to be refunded.
At no point during the week did it sound like Cam Skattebo was going to be demoted. He was not listed on the injury report. Local beat reporters were not aware of any unusual activity. It was assumed that he would remain as the starter.
That, obvious, was not the case.
As a result, anyone who bet on Skattebo to go over any of his expected rushing totals were likely going to lose. Most major sportsbooks listed him as the Giants’ primary running back before the game. His totals were listed as:
- Rushing yards — Over/Under 39.5
- Rushing attempts — Over/Under 10.5
- Receptions — Over/Under 1.5
- Receiving yards — Over/Under 7.5
- Rushing and receiving yards — Over/Under 52.5
Given his lack of touches in the first half, Skattebo was not going to get anywhere close to the Over without a massive role in the second half. Sports bettors were furious.
DraftKings released the following statement:
“All Cameron Skattebo of the New York Giants markets will be settled accordingly and will not be voided, since he has not been ruled out of the game due to an injury and has recorded multiple snaps in the game today against the New Orleans Saints.”
I would imagine that other sportsbooks will follow suit. Skattebo bets will not be voided.
