Cam Vaughn has been dismissed from the Miami football team.

Transfer wide receiver Cam Vaughn is no longer a member of the Miami football team. Head coach Mario Cristobal confirmed that he’d been dismissed this week.

Hurricanes insider Danny Hernandez provided some clarity to the situation, though there’s still been no official reason given for Vaughn’s exit.

There had been multiple rumors circulating social media in the leadup to the dismissal. Hernandez did his best to quiet any false claims.

Miami dismissed Cam Vaughn.

The word “dismissed” is pertinent. There had been whispers that the exit was voluntary. Some alluded to unhappiness with either his spot on the depth chart or relationship with the coaching staff. Vaughn had previously been running with the reserve group in the wideout room.

Hernandez put that claim to bed.

A mugshot from a July arrest in Georgia also sparked speculation. While it certainly didn’t help Vaughn’s case, it was not the singular reason for his dismissal.

“We talked about this a couple days ago when the rumors were circulating,” Hernandez said. “We said that Cam Vaughn’s future with the team was very much in doubt… Now that it is final, (we can correct some misconceptions).

“Cam Vaughn was dismissed. There were rumors swirling that Cam Vaughn left the team, and that he was frustrated and going out the door. This was a dismissal due to a failure to uphold team standards.

“Another misconception, here, that I want to address is that Cam Vaughn was arrested for reckless driving in Georgia. There was a thought that this was why he was dismissed. Obviously, this did not help the situation, but I want to clarify that this was for repeated failures to uphold team standards.”

Hernandez noted that the current regime has been less lenient on giving second and third chances. Mario Cristobal saw a pattern, and he acted on it.

Cristobal confirmed the dismissal on a local radio show this week. Cam Vaughn is no longer a Miami team member.

Cam Vaughn is not the Hurricane in hot water.

Jordan Lyle, too, was arrested earlier this offseason. The school is allowing the legal process to play out.

According to Andy Slater of Fox Sports South Florida, Lyle faces a felony charge of fleeing from cops and also reckless driving.

“We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle. As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Lyle has continued to practice with the team.

Vaughn’s situation, apparently, differs from that of his former teammate. The wide receiver, who transferred in from West Virginia this offseason, has violated team standards on multiple occasions.

Vaughn started his career at Jacksonville State where he hauled in 48 catches for 803 yards as a redshirt freshman. He followed it up with a 541-yard season in Morgantown.

Now, he’s left without a team for the 2026 season, which starts in less than three weeks.
