Canelo Alvarez has refused to fight David Benavidez, but now he has a lot of incentive to do so.

After knocking out Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade, Benavidez straight up called out Alvarez to a fight.

“I just think I just solidified myself as the dominant performer, I think it’s a reminder to let everyone who the real champion is at 168. They want to see me vs Canelo and this is what we want too.”

“Let’s give people want they want to see, they want to see Benavidez vs Canelo.”

In December, Canelo, who has refused to fight Benavidez for years, fired back by saying that he’ll fight whoever he wants because he’s the “king.”

“Look, a lot of things can be said, but, at the end of the day, I’m the king and I can do what I want,” Alvarez said in a video transcribed by Fight Hub.

“We’ll see. Like I’ve said, always, I’m here to make the good fights. If that’s a good fight for September, or he has to wait a little bit, we’ll see. At the end of the day, sometimes the fights are bigger when you have to wait a little bit.”

Alvarez’s promoter, Al Haymon of PBC, is reportedly offering him $55 million guaranteed to fight Benavidez in May.

Canelo may be forced to eventually fight Benavidez or get stripped of his 168-pound belt by the WBC in the future.

Update: Canelo’s manager Eddy Reynoso denies the $55 million offer and fired back at claims that Alvarez is afraid of Benavidez.
