Actress Cara Delevingne was enjoying the pre-race festivities on Sunday ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The actress/model was hanging out with her entourage when world famous F1 commentator Martin Brundle made an attempt to approach her and was rebuffed. Cara Delevingne big leaguing one of the most famous people in the sport on HIS turf raised the ire of many Formula 1 fans.

To be clear, the rules at the British Grand Prix in the pre-race grid are if they’re in there and Martin Brundle wants to speak with them they are supposed to. Cara later claimed she was told not to speak which would go against the rules.

Brundle himself said on the TV broadcast “she doesn’t want to talk? But everybody needs to talk on the grid. That’s the deal now, everybody talks on the grid.”

Cara Delevingne later tweeted in order to try and clear things up. She tweetedI was told to say no so I did. Thank you for seeing both sides.

It’s Martin Brundle’s grid and she was just a passerby. Fans know this. Martin knows this. Cara says she didn’t know this. But the outcry on social media was swift.

Racing fans wrote:

“Ignoramus. No manners.”

“She said she couldn’t hear him. It was noisy, maybe she’s shy.” Shy? She’s a world famous actress!

“If you’re going to accept a VIP grid pass at F1 you should know the rules of the grid. If Brundle comes to talk, you talk. Otherwise, get off the grid and give it to someone who’d be delighted to get the chance to speak to him.”

“I believe the rules on being on grid by the authorities are you must speak to all tv networks? Obviously your not a F1 fan , no worries just a little embarrassed for you though!”

Others chimed in:

Based on Alfa Romeo’s tweet, she was their guest. Presumably, they should have relayed F1’s rules of the grid to her.
