In a scary scene that brought back bad memories, a fan sitting on the upper deck’s ledge at Busch Stadium in St. Louis battled other fans who tried to keep him safe, and a camera captured the incident.

For some reason, during Wednesday night’s Cardinals game against the Milwaukee Brewers, a fan was seen dangling one leg over the ledge in the upper deck. While there has been no report about why the fan was doing this, the mere sight of it was enough to spur several fans into action.

The terrifying scene was captured on video by Instagram user Oliver Stoffel, according to the New York Post. In it, a fan in a blue shirt and shorts is seen straddling the upper deck ledge in what appeared to be the 200s section.

“Oh, my God,” a fan at Busch Stadium watching the scene unfold can be heard saying on the video.

A fan wearing a red Cardinals hat then sneaks up behind the man in blue and puts his arms around him, jerking him off the ledge and back to safety. As the fan removed him from the ledge, several other fans also intervened. While this was happening, the fan who had been on the upper deck ledge began trying to punch his rescuers, striking one man in the face.

The incident was reminiscent of what happened at PNC Park in 2025

Regardless of why the fan was sitting with one leg dangling over the upper deck ledge, his mere actions were enough to remind many people of what happened last year at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

A Pittsburgh Pirates fan named Kavan Markwood shocked the sports world when he fell more than 21 feet over the Robert Clemente right field wall onto the field on April 30th of last year. Markwood lay there motionless while medical personnel scrambled to treat him, then took him off the field on a cart. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The Pennsylvania State Police later charged his 21-year-old friend, who was with him at the game, with furnishing alcohol to a minor. Five months after the accident, Markwood returned to PNC Park, but he was still feeling the aftereffects of the fall.

Whether that incident was on the minds of fans inside Busch Stadium Wednesday night remains unclear, but if they hadn’t reacted the way they did, it could have ended far worse than what happened in Pittsburgh last year.
