If you’re an NFL fan who was getting sick of listening to Tony Romo on CBS broadcasts, you officially have reason to celebrate. The network officially parted ways with Romo on Friday following his arrest over the summer for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

“CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways,” a statement released to reporter Richard Deitsch read. “We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward.

“JJ Watt will continue to partner Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on our lead NFL announce team for the rest of the season. All other teams remain the same, including Ian Eagle, Ross Tucker and Evan Washburn.”

Tony Romo Initially Intended To Return To CBS Broadcasts

Watt moved up the CBS ladder following Romo’s arrest, and while he was thankful for the opportunity, it didn’t sound as if he expected it to be a long-term change.

Perhaps that was due to Romo’s insistence that he planned to return to broadcasting after taking some time away.

“I am working closely with a team of doctors to address my health and make the necessary changes. I am deeply grateful for the support of my family, friends, and the NFL community including players, coaches, and owners,” Romo said in a statement following the incident. “Your encouragement has meant more to me than you know. As I turn my attention to my health, my family, and, in time, my return to CBS. I kindly ask for privacy during this period”

Even as recently as late August, as he faced new charges, Romo hinted at a CBS return.

Now we know that option is off the table, and it seems as if Romo’s career in the spotlight might be on hold for the forseeable future, if not for good.
