The Los Angeles Chargers blew a giant lead to ultimately lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars. With their season over, fans are clamoring for a new head coach.

These calls for Brandon Staley’s job have been going off for a while. However, it appears the players support their head coach through thick and thin.

According to Kevin Patra, multiple players went to bat for Staley after the tough loss. Justin Herbert led the way saying, “Everyone would be lucky to have a coach like Staley. He’s been an incredible leader and has the respect of everyone on our team. He’s genuine, he’s himself and has been the same person for the past two years.”

Even Joey Bosa supports Brandon Staley as the Chargers’ head coach. He states, “I really do trust these coaches. He’s a fresh head coach in this league. To expect he’s going to know everything right away is kind of silly. I think we need to just keep building. It doesn’t happen overnight.”

Despite the team backing up Staley, fans are feeling the opposite way. Especially for how he handled a meaningless Week 18 matchup that led to Mike Williams going down with an injury and missing the playoff game against Jacksonville. Add on top of the fact the Chargers blew a 27-0 lead to be eliminated in the first round and you can understand why the fans are ready for a head coaching change.

It’s still early in the offseason for Los Angeles, so a change at head coach could be in play. For now, Brandon Staley retains his job, and considering the players are going to bat for him, the front office may elect to keep him for another season.
