Saturday’s college football game between Navy and Charlotte was truly remarkable. It was a masterpiece for Sickos. For everyone else, it was the most boring game of the year.

Both teams combined for 20 (!!) punts.

The Midshipmen are in their first season with Brian Newberry as head coach. They were also forced to move away from the triple option offense, at least to some extent, because of the new rules on chop blocks.

On the flip side, though, is a 49ers team in its first year of a total rebuild. Biff Poggi, one of the most interesting coaches in the sport, was hired during the offseason. They won just three games in 2022. A lot of players transferred out after the previous staff was fired.

All of this goes to say that both teams are largely uninspiring. And when they both got on the same field, it made for one of the least-exciting games in the history of the sport.

Neither team scored, turned the ball over on downs, fumbled or threw an interception in the first half. Seriously. Navy and Charlotte traded punts for the first 30 minutes of play.

Only the final play of the second quarter was not a punt. It was a kneel down!

The second half was way more exciting. It featured two touchdowns, a fumble, and two interceptions. Everything else was… punts!

BOTH teams totaled exactly 265 yards of offense, each. They combined for 915 (!!) total yards of punts.

The Midshipmen had the ball for 29 minutes and eight seconds, recorded 10 first downs, and went 3-of-15 on third down. The 49ers had the ball for 30 minutes and 52 seconds, recorded 14 first downs, and went 3-of-16 on third down.

Navy beat Charlotte.

What a game! Sickos everywhere will never forget where they were when Charlotte and Navy played to a 14-0 ballgame with 20 combined punts.
