Chelsea FC has gone through a lot of uncertainty recently. With a Russian oligarch owner, many wondered how sanctions from the UK would impact the team. Then Roman Abramovich announced he would sell the team, which seemed to ease some of the concerns about how sanctions would impact the club.

Even the freezing of Roman Abramovich’s assets earlier today didn’t seem to be something that was going to have much of impact on the club. However, Chelsea now has a new issue to deal with.

Chelsea’s main jersey sponsor is a telecommunication company named 3. Their logo has been featured prominently on the front of Chelsea’s jersey all season. Now that sponsor has suspended their deal with Chelsea, leaving them scrambling for new jerseys on match day.

Chelsea plays against Norwich City at 2:30pm ET today, so this news has left them needing to fix their uniforms in just a few hours for a Premier League match. Now we will get to see an odd sight during that match. We’ll see a major football club sporting jerseys without a sponsor on them.

With the season nearly over and potential sponsors likely not wanting anything to do with a club who is currently still owned by a Russian oligarch, we could see Chelsea sporting sponorless jerseys for the rest of the season.

Right now, Chelsea has to be hoping that they are sold as quickly as possible.

Update

The team’s manager and coach have now both commented on the situation unfolding at Chelsea.
