Let me go ahead and introduce you folks to a young man that I like to refer to as “The Big Lanky.” Chet Holmgren is a 7-foot-1 senior who is widely considered as the best high school basketball player in the country. It doesn’t take many mixtapes of the guy to see why he is currently the No.1  recruit in the country as he has size, handles, and can pull up from just about anywhere on the court.

To cap it all off, how phenomenal of a name is Chet for a big 7-footer than can flat out ball? You can’t script it any better than that. Holmgren went up against the top junior recruit in the country Thursday night, Emoni Bates, and put on an absolute clinic.

Holmgren’s Minnesota team, Team Sizzle, defeated Bates’ Ypsi Prep, 78-71, and both players finished with a double-double. Bates had a quiet 36 points (11-for-22 from the field) and 10 rebounds while Holmgren dominated both ends of the court with impressive blocks, long threes, and powerful dunks in the lane, finishing with 31 points (13-for-18 from the field), 12 rebounds and six blocks, according to Yahoo.

Holmgren announced via Twitter that he has narrowed down his college choices to 7 different schools who would kill to have him suit up for them next year. Those schools consist of Michigan, Minnesota, Gonzaga, Ohio State, Georgetown, Memphis, and North Carolina. One can only wonder how Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils didn’t finesse their way into the Holmgren sweepstakes but regardless, Holmgren is definitely not short of options.

I love to watch these high school tapes of these top recruits and try and guess how many points they would have dropped on me in my day. I take a look at Holmgren and see nothing short of a 50 point night just backing me into the paint all game long. There is no debating the kids a stud, and with a name like Chet Holmgren, things just get that much better. Keep your eyes peeled for the big lanky.
