One of the perks of being a member of the 2023 Kansas City Chiefs was getting to meet one of the most famous people on the planet: Taylor Swift.

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker was lucky enough to be among that group of players last season who got to meet the pop star, thanks to her relationship with the team’s star tight end Travis Kelce.

Last week, during an interview with EWTN News In Depth, Butker relayed what the experience was like when he was introduced to Swift.

Harrison Butker was first asked what it was like having Taylor Swift around the team for most of the season and whether or not he is a Swiftie.

“I wouldn’t say I’m a Swiftie, but I got to meet her after our New Year’s game,” Butker recalled. “We had just clinched the AFC West and I rarely go out ever. It was just New Year’s so, you know, got to get the champagne and enjoy the ball dropping and all of that stuff.

“So I went to a party and and this was very tame, I’m not, you know, I wore a suit and tie to the party, but Travis showed up and Taylor was there and I got to meet her and she was just so humble and so gracious.

“She’s, I don’t think she grew up a football fan, so everything for her is so cool and especially as a kicker she thinks that’s amazing that I can kick the ball so far through the uprights.

“So I was a little nervous to meet Taylor Swift,” he continued. “I mean it’s Taylor Swift. So maybe I am a Swiftie if I was nervous to meet her.

“But it was a great experience and I can’t say enough great things about her and and I hope they, you know, as I said at Georgia Tech, I hope they get married and and start a family.”

Butker was also asked if he has a favorite Taylor Swift song.

“No,” he replied. “I mean, there’s one quote that I heard a good friend of mine talk about. He said ‘familiarity breeds contempt’ and when you type that in, a Taylor Swift song comes up. I think it’s “Bejeweled,” so I’ll claim that as my favorite.”

He was then asked about a photo taken after the Super Bowl of him, actor David Henry and Taylor Swift together and what do three people with such varied backgrounds have in common?

“I guess we’re all Chiefs football fans,” Butker replied.

Butker also recalled seeing her at a Kansas City Chiefs game for the first time.

“I remember the very first one that she went to, I think it was against the Bears maybe, and it was the end of the game and James Winchester the long snapper came up came up he was like, ‘Hey, you know who’s in Kelce’s box?’ I’m like, ‘Who?’ He goes, ‘Taylor Swift.’ I’m like, ‘No way Taylor’s up there.’ And so it was very, very cool, very surreal, but then when you when you meet her you realize she’s like everyone else, very down to earth.”
